About Kamal

Kamal is a freelance science journalist devoted to communicating ground-breaking discoveries, surprising stories, and the challenges of research.

He has written for multiple news organisations, including Science, Live Science, and The Scientist, where he covers a variety of topics not limited to biology, health, and technology. He enjoys reporting on diverse research questions from the evolution of giant viruses to the discovery of cellular features that have fallen under the radar for fifty years.

He completed a PhD in Pathology at the University of Cambridge and the Diamond Light Source, and he has harnessed his doctoral training to craft analytical and balanced journalism.

When he’s not writing about brain parasites, haywire cells, or the like, he can be found scrambling to keep his house plants alive or chipping away at rock on the Jurassic Coast of England until he exhumes fossils. He now lives in Oxford and really needs to get a dog.
